Solar Plexus
Solar Plexus is a new body of work created on Gulidjan and Gadubanud Country, on the edge of the Otway Ranges National Park. These paintings have taken on the natural landscape through a refracted lens to mirror the experience of the artist in her studio, capturing small moments of beauty in everyday life. The series partners the chaos of dense understory with the dwarfing mountain ash canopy common to this part of the world.

Artist Bio
Rachel King lives and works on Gulidjan and Gadubanud Country (Barwon Downs, Australia) and is deeply fascinated with colour, composition and form. Particularly through oil painting, she examines the intuitive decision and indecision that is part of the creative process. There is a creation of a language and internal logic that occurs in the stages between a blank canvas and a finished painting that she finds timelessly fascinating.
Rachel challenges the distance between landscape and abstraction. Framed are the internal and external influences that drive the decisions made while painting, concreting them to the time and place that they were created. Born from real places, objects and natural forms these works aim to sit on the edge of representation and recognition.

local creative women of the GOR + Otways of all ages and cultural backgrounds to exhibit at the project space with a monthly placement residency. Wonderfully creative women for all sorts of reasons may find that their lives get put on hold or displaced and their creative practice is quite often the first thing that gets put on the back burner. 2023 is the year to reemerge with help and love. You can re-emerge and grow at any age and in any place. This is a safe nurturing space for experimentation and community. Welcome.
