The Lady and The Cactus

A$1,645.00

This artwork captures the feeling of weirdness, awkwardness, and the profound sense of otherness—my personal struggle to fit into a world that often feels like it wasn’t made for me. At its core is Lady Rage, the embodied goddess of ancestral feminine rage against the patriarchy, a powerful symbol of defiance and reclamation. The cactus in the piece is rich in meaning, symbolizing endurance, protection, and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions. Across cultures, cacti hold deep spiritual significance: in Feng Shui, they guard against negative energy and misfortune; in Buddhism and Hinduism, they represent enlightenment and spiritual growth. For the O'odham people, the saguaro cactus is honored as an ancestor, its fruit used in sacred rituals. This multifaceted symbolism reflects the complex, resilient strength of those who navigate the edges of societal norms.

My artwork employs shadow effects that create the illusion of figures subtly lifted or dislocated from their background, evoking a sense of otherworldly detachment. Each figure is encased in a luminous aura, as if illuminated by an enigmatic, distant energy source—a power both ethereal and untouchable. This interplay of light and shadow not only enhances depth and mystery but also deepens the sense of spiritual alienation, as though the figures exist in a liminal space between worlds.
